PLACE

Breakneck Creek Vineyard, McMurtrie Road East, McLaren Vale, 180m above sea level. Geology is Kurrajong Formation, a sedimentary formation of alluvial gravel, silica cemented conglomerate, brown clay sandstone. This provides for good water retention, albeit at lower than average yield levels, providing good balance and concentration.

VINTAGE

The Chenin Blanc vines (1.0Ha), were grafted in 2023 and this is our first crop.

The growing season leading into the 2025 vintage was the warmest since 2003 and in the 10% of driest years we have had on record. As a result, disease pressure was very low, and although the season was very warm and dry, there was no extreme or damaging heatwaves.

WINEMAKING

The fruit was hand-picked on the morning of February 13, 8.15 tonnes in total, tight skins, good signs! Upon receiving at the winery, destemmed straight into the press. Whole bunch pressed over a few hours; the free run juice fraction was collected into a stainless-steel tank. The juice was then settled and left on fine lees, ferment starting, and kept at a cool 15-16 degrees until dryness was achieved, taking 45 days. The wine was then matured in tank for a further 5 months, with a 20% portion in older French oak 400L puncheons. Cold stabilised and cross-flow filtered, bottled on 23 September, 2025.

WHAT’S GOOD?

• COLOUR: Light bright yellow, golden hue.
• AROMA: Honeysuckle, native bush grasses, lanolin, the sea!
• PALATE: Apple and guava juice, salted limes, ginger,beeswax, crunchy texture. Crisp and fleshy mouthfeel with good fruity concentration, crisp minerality, framed with that brine and chalk edge we love in our white wines, and true of place.
• FOOD MATCH: With fish & chips, squeeze of lemon and tartare, a crunchy Asian style salad – simple good times.
• Drink now style but will well develop up to 2027.
