Geyer Wine Co. is a small, independent producer based in the Barossa Valley, South Australia, founded by David Geyer. Hailing from a family of Barossa grape growers, Geyer brings a depth of local knowledge combined with a globe-trotting education, including stints at Torbreck (beginning in 2002) and international experience in South Africa’s Lammershoek (under visionary Craig Hawkins of Testalonga) , France’s Domaine Matassa (under the legendary Tom Lubbe), the US, and New Zealand. His label officially began with the 2015 vintage while he was working alongside mentor Pete Schell at Spinifex.

The core philosophy of Geyer Wine Co. is a modern, regenerative-leaning reinterpretation of Barossa heritage. He converts the leased vineyards into organic farming as minimum requirement, while leading the whole process towards regenerative farming, where the approach is more on creating balance in the vineyard rather than ‘destroying’ the unwanted species.  Besides the fruits from his own farms, he works with regeneratively and organically farmed vineyards, prioritizing soil health, biodiversity, and long-term sustainability. Dave achieves this vision by rescuing old, often neglected, vineyard sites and celebrating diverse varieties from tiny parcels of old vines.

The winemaking approach is distinctly minimal intervention and “unfussed,” aiming to produce elegant, expressive wines that are honest, low-intervention snapshots of place and vintage. All wines are naturally made using native yeasts, with no additions apart from small amounts of sulfur if the need arises – if not the wines end up being completely zero-zero. The result is an emphasis on authenticity, texture, and drinkability, with a focus on clarity and energy rather than heavy oak and high alcohol. Dave makes sure all the wines that get to be released are the wines that he absolutely loves, the rest that he didn’t feel a connection with don’t make it to the bottling day. For him, his wines are babies of labor of love, so he takes them very seriously – either the wines are exactly the way they are meant to be (their best) or they are let go – there is no shortcuts.

In addition to his namesake label, David Geyer co-founded the boundary-pushing Yetti & The Kokonut with friend Koen Janssen, capturing a wilder side of winemaking with uncommon variety unisons, plenty of skin contact, and an irreverently colourful aesthetic.
