JAUMA

James Erskine, the founder of Jauma, is a pioneer of the Australian natural wine movement, dedicated to crafting wines using natural methods. Unlike conventional winemaking practices, Jauma wines are made with no artificial additives, allowing the grapes’ natural character to shine through

James’ journey to natural philosophies began with a successful career as a sommelier. However, after witnessing natural winemaking techniques in Europe, he became passionate about creating wines that reflected a sense of place and individuality.

In 2010, James embarked on his winemaking adventure, founding Jauma in South Australia. At the same time, he joined forces with Sam Hughes, Tom Shobbrook (Shobbrook wines), and Anton (Lucy Margaux), co-founding the Natural Selection Theory, a collaborative experiment in natural winemaking, further supporting the Australian natural wine movement.

James’ dedication to natural winemaking is evident in his approach. He shuns artificial additives and manipulations, favoring organic viticulture and minimal intervention in the cellar. The resulting wines are known for their stability, vibrancy, and purity, offering a true taste of the grapes and their terroir.

Jauma’s portfolio showcases James’ exploration of various styles. From Grenache expressions to unique blends and skin-contact wines, there’s a Jauma wine for every palate.

James’ commitment to natural winemaking has not only earned him recognition but has also played a significant role in shaping the Australian natural wine landscape.
