WHAT IS NO FILTRATION?

You probably have seen us saying this word a lot – ‘unfiltered wines’.

Wait what? Filtered wine? Yup, in fact, wine filtration is a very common practice among winemakers, as it helps get that crystal clear color of wine that looks so yummy and sexy and also helps prevent the wine from getting spoiled from an excess of bacteria in the dead yeast.

But for low-intervention and natural winemakers, filtration is a very optional practice. Lo-fi winemakers only opt for light, physical filtration (surely no chemicals!) or ‘racking’ (relying on the power of gravity to settle the solids on the bottom) to filter out big bits of solids so you will still see some tiny bits of settlements in some of the bottles.

Natural winemakers will go for no filtration at all, they love doing that to give their wines more fun, aromas, and flavor! Their wines are hazy, and cloudy, with a stack of settlements, with solids swimming in the wine bottle 😂

To us, low-to-no filtration is one of the key indicators of whether the wine can be considered minimal intervention or not. Grab a bottle of a lo-fi or natural wine and you will see how much more of life and fun it has compared to crystal-clear conventional ones!

Salut!
